How to conjugate Italian verb ‘lasciare’

Lasciare is a regular, first conjugation verb that means to leave, to get off, to abandon someone, to quit.

Posso lasciare un messaggio? (Can I leave a message?)
È arrivata l’ora di lasciare questa città (It is time to get off this city)
Lasceremo Firenze domani (We will leave from Florence tomorrow)

Regular -are-verbs are characterised by having the endings -o, -i, -a, -iamo, -ate, and -ano in present tense indicativo, and the endings -vo, -vi, -va, -vamo, -vate, -vano in the imperfect tense.

As is common for -are verbs, the past participle of lasciare has got the ending -ato, making it lasciato. It uses the auxiliary verb avere when forming compound tenses. The verb lasciare can be followed directly by an infinitive to mean to let someone doing something.

La mamma mi lascia mangiare la torta (My mum lets me eat the cake)
